After more than a month of snapshooting, I finally managed to get my first roll of 35mm B&W film negative processed and developed. Out of the expected 36 exposures, I could only eke out 30 usable exposures, the rest being underexposed, and out of the said 30, only 6 could be considered, you know, okay. Sigh. There were signs of scratches and stretchmarks all over the negatives, but it was not the real and true reason for my disappointment. But rather, my inability to visualize in monotone and the lack of umpphh in my photographs. And perhaps in my haste to see results, I did not properly take the time to consider my composition and subject matter carefully.

The above happens to be one of the better photographs, and if you think this is crap, I can only imagine the epithets and insults that would be hurled against the ones I thought that sucked big time. The weather did play a small but minor part, it was either cloudy or raining, but it could not explain for my shots which look more or less muddy. I fancied myself as being able to 'read' the light, but this shoot with B&W has shown me that my presumption was premature. And far too arrogant on my part.

This was photographed at Zouk quite recently. I distinctly recall a strong light source in the form of a mounted headlight shining at above six feet from these two ladies. 1/60 seconds at f/1.8 for an ISO of 100. This was one of the better shots. The others turned muddy or underexposed by 1 stop or so. Sigh. But hey, do look at my final photograph for this posting. I consider this to be pretty good and I do hope you will agree...

Lucky film flickr group, where like-minded folks post up their shots taken using Lucky B&W film. Dang. Why can't I shoot that good?! By the way, my apologies for my turd-like and bland postings for these past few months since the Bar Council Fiasco in August. I have been busy with work and personal matters that my blog is starting to look more like an abandoned house with overgrown weeds all over it. Sigh.
